Vitae Flux: An Engineer’s
Shift Toward
Integrative Care

Before the pandemic, engineer Ricardo Alvarez began noticing spots on his legs. He went to the dermatologist expecting a cream and heard something else: the problem wasn’t with his skin—it was with his liver.

By Fernanda Sodré

An integrative physician assessed his condition without conventional tests and prescribed a frequency-based treatment protocol. In three months, he lost eighteen kilos—his inflamed body was expelling through the skin what his liver could no longer filter out.

It was this episode that brought Ricardo and his wife, Prof. Dr. Ana Maria Alvarez—a mathematician with an academic career spanning more than two decades—together; both hold advanced degrees in biophysics. Neither of them had a background in healthcare. He was at the helm of the engineering firm he had built over more than thirty years; she taught and conducted research, having worked on projects linked to UNESCO, the IDB, the OEI, and the MEC, among others. It was this shared interest that gave rise, a few years later, to Clínica Bienestar, founded by the couple in Santos and now recognized as a pioneer in the region in analyses and treatments using biophysical technologies. From the experience gained there, Alecrim would later emerge in Vigo, Spain—led by the couple’s daughter, Mariana—and subsequently, Vitae Flux, in Alphaville. Today, the three form a single group, each location with its own unique character and a shared purpose: to provide holistic patient care.

From Bienestar in Santos to Vitae Flux in Alphaville

The story began on a small scale, with a different purpose. In Santos, the couple opened a space conceived as a therapeutic coworking space—making biophysical equipment they used themselves available in some of the rooms. Demand grew, the equipment multiplied, and the coworking space transformed into a clinic: Clínica Bienestar, led by Prof. Dr. Ana Maria, who heads the facility as a specialist in Biophysics, Reiki, Family Constellation, and Hypnosis, integrating other professionals—such as physical therapists, massage therapists, nutritionists, and acupuncturists—to give the clinic a multidisciplinary approach, as well as direct collaboration with integrative medicine physicians. Throughout its seven years of existence, Bienestar has welcomed patients from various states across the country—people willing to travel in search of care they couldn’t find closer to home.

Prof. Dr. Ana Alvarez: a researcher, educator, and biophysical therapist, Ana combines her academic and scientific background with an integrative approach to care. She specializes in assessing the body’s functional and energetic patterns, developing personalized protocols focused on balance, self-regulation, and holistic well-being.
Ricardo Alvarez: engineer, biophysical therapist, and hypnotherapist, Ricardo integrates technical reasoning, therapeutic listening, and a systemic perspective into biophysical care. His work contributes to personalized protocols that support processes of balance, self-regulation, and holistic well-being.

Prof. Dr. Ana Maria and Ricardo had already been considering opening a practice in the Alphaville area. After the clinic’s grand opening in late January of this year, they met Dr. Elaine Pimentel, a renowned integrative physician from Minas Gerais. A constellation therapist for over two decades, she was a disciple of Bert Hellinger himself, with whom she trained in Germany, and chose to live in Alphaville. They also met acupuncturist Alex Sakai, who has over thirty years of practice and has received additional training in Japan, China, and Thailand. A writer, herbal medicine developer, and professor at the CEATA school, Alex Sakai is a disciple of Dr. Wu, a leading authority on traditional Chinese acupuncture in Brazil. Elaine and Alex have joined the clinic’s professional staff.

What Affects Health, According to the Clinic

The starting point for any protocol at Bienestar and Vitae Flux is a list of eleven factors that the clinic identifies as responsible for throwing the body out of balance: toxic metals, solvents, pesticides, microplastics, parasites, electromagnetic fields, geopathic stress, genetic makeup, epigenetics, systemic inheritance linked to ancestry, and patterns of thought and emotion. It is this framework that guides each assessment: a symptom, the clinic explains, is not the problem itself—it is a warning that something in the body has gone awry. The theoretical basis comes from physics applied to biology: according to the clinic, each cell communicates with the others through light, a principle associated with the research of German biophysicist Fritz-Albert Popp on light emission by living cells. When this communication fails, the body begins to fall ill, because disease is the result of a loss of energetic coherence and an imbalance in cellular communication—and it is in correcting these signals that the clinic’s protocols come into play.

A clinic conceived as a system

What defines Vitae Flux as a leader in biophysical therapies—more than any equipment—is a specific way of viewing the patient. While conventional medicine typically divides care by specialty—with each professional responsible for a specific part of the body—the clinic’s approach is to treat each person as a unique system, in which dietary habits, recurring emotional stress, and localized pain may all stem from the same root cause. No one comes to Vitae Flux asking for a specific treatment: most seek out the clinic because of a complaint that hasn’t been addressed elsewhere—insomnia, persistent fatigue, an autoimmune disease, or pain without a definitive diagnosis.

It is from this complaint that the protocol emerges, structured in four stages: conducting an analysis, identifying imbalances, and then treating and monitoring. The initial analysis, Systemic Mapping, combines the analysis of a blood sample with a biophysical exam performed using the clinic’s own equipment, capable of detecting imbalances that have not yet manifested as a diagnosed disease. From there, a customized treatment plan is developed—without a one-size-fits-all approach—often in consultation with the patient’s primary care physician.

Six lines of therapy form the foundation of these protocols: bioelectromagnetism, phototherapy, laser therapy, cryotherapy, thermotherapy, and chromotherapy, combined with relaxation, improved circulation, and nervous system balance.

Energization and Rebalancing Chamber (CER)

One of Vitae Flux’s most recent technologies is the CER. In a 20-minute session—which is passive and involves no invasive procedures— it combines five technologies approved by the Brazilian Unified Health System (SUS), among the 29 Integrative and Complementary Health Practices (PICS), namely: Electromagnetic Fields, Vibrational Frequencies, Sound Stimulation, Light Stimulation, and Integrated Bioresonance, with the goal of promoting mental relaxation, reducing anxiety, harmonizing the chakras, facilitating cellular restoration, aiding physical recovery, combating chronic fatigue, inducing restful sleep, and enhancing mental clarity—all without requiring any recovery time, as the user can return directly to their daily routine after the session.

Longevity and Performance

While the couple’s early years of study, back in Santos, were dedicated to addressing specific pains and symptoms, Ricardo and Ana Maria’s message today also targets an audience that isn’t sick—but wants to stay healthy for longer. Longevity and performance have become among the most discussed topics in the wellness market, and Vitae Flux already treats this area as a central part of what it offers in Alphaville: protocols for those seeking to maintain vitality and prevent a minor imbalance from into a disease—an audience that includes athletes seeking peak performance and people who simply want to age with greater awareness of their own bodies. Vitae Flux emphasizes in its institutional communications that its services are complementary: they do not replace diagnosis, monitoring, or conventional medical treatment.

“After two microcirculation stimulation sessions, the improvement in my performance was very noticeable—both to me and to the system I use to track my heart rate during workouts.” — Patient Manuel G. Santos

Ricardo continues to divide his time between the engineering firm he founded over thirty years ago and biophysics; Ana Maria left academia for good and now focuses her research on new cases, with the goal of finding solutions to the energy imbalances of those seeking help through biophysics. But it’s the same story—the one about the spots on the leg, the inflamed liver, and the question the two have kept asking ever since—that the couple tells when explaining why they incorporated biophysics into engineering and research, first in Santos and now also in Alphaville.

If anything in this article resonated with you—a complaint that never found an answer, an imbalance that keeps coming back, or simply the desire to better understand your own body as the years go by—it’s worth talking to those who deal with this every day. Vitae Flux has a location in Alphaville.
